This is a sheng (raw) tea, and the leaves are very dark when steeped with some deterioration. Many other old teas exhibit the deep dark wet color, there is no off or dank taste with this tea. This is a piece of history that reveals a far away forest taste with hints of ginseng\/herbal notes. Lasts 5-10 infusions if done well and quickly. There are no original wrappers on the tuo's. The paper wrapper was added later to help preserve the integrity of each tuocha. The rice paper wrappers are stamped with a traditionally inked chop indicating \"Aged Pu-erh Tuocha tea\". Those tea worms are very picky, only munching on old tea and leaving their trail of coveted Longzhu castings. These castings separated sell for over $10,000 us per pound. It was made in the Yi wu tong xing cha zhang. Yi wu is the town of production. Since the factory was established in 1733 it was called the Tong shun xiang hao. The family is said to have gone to Thailand at the time of the Cultural Revolution to continue to preserve the secret process of the old factory. The leaf is a grade 3 large leaf variety which is very high for beeng cha's. It is considered brown and raw (not cooked or black). It can be infused many times and has a sublime smooth taste that leaves a pleasant woody aftertaste. Only time and expert production can produce a tea of this class. In addition, the rice paper wrapping is hand embossed in the chop fashion. Note that the lettering is very faded on all these cakes, but the tea is clean. Each cake weighs about 350 g.
